gen 3 vs gen 4 question

first off i appoligize if this has already been addressed. I am in the process of building a glock 19 and am interested in using the VTAC / SAI magwell and base plates. according to VTAC and SAI the magwell will not fit the gen 4. I can see why if I am using one of the supplied additional backstraps however I am not. other then the two groves on the interior of the gen 4 back strap are there any differences in the generations that would prevent the magwell from not fitting? I appreciate the help in advance.

the base of the gen 3 and 4 are different, they even take different grip plugs. a 3 won't fit in a 4

I had a Glock 34 with a maxwell and it was great it was a gen 3! I tried putting it on my Glock 23 gen 3 and it didn't feel good at all the grip is to short. I don't want to break your heart but are you sure you need it.

the reason i specifically want the vtac/sai magwell is because it is much smaller all around then the other available wells. it was designed specifically for concealed carry while still being functional. i was able to see it on a salient built glock at a local gunstore and was impressed. Do i need it...nahhh however i would like it. for example i shoot steel and use a zev speed feed on my comp gen4 34. i would never even think of carrying that. if you wanna see what im trying to explain its on the viking tactics site.

I was thinking i could just take down those two notches inside the back strap and have it fit. ive gotten mixed answers.

I buy stuff all the time and modify it to fit. the worse you can do is throw it away. the trick is slow and easy and DO IT BY HAND, no power tools. they take off too much too fast

You don't need that bobble. Practice your speed reloads without one, and you will be proficient with any Glock you pick up.

I too have modified stuff to fit as well. I built a gen4 34 for comp use and used some gen 3 parts. I am currently Leo here I palm beach co and have been in several tac units as well as shoot in comps. I'm fairly proficient with my reloads so to be honest it's 50/50. To assist a bit on reloads and I just really like the look and functionality with the salient base plates. And to kamkaze, if for some reason it dosent work or I don't like it, it's yours for 55 bucks.

Just wanted to post the result and again thanks for the imput. Just as expected (even thought there were many opinions) the only difference in the gen3 and gen 4 was the notches on the inside of the backstrap. I groved the magwell plug to fit the notches and it fit perfectly. I also was able to shave down the bottom of the back strap i use and fit it perfectly behind the magwell. Took an hr!
