Congrats on the glock. Break in ranges from 200-500 rounds through it and it gives you a feel for the gun. Regular target ammo (FMJs), these days it's whatever brand you can find. Besides what fun is it looking at it when you can shoot it!
This is a discussion on I hear a lot, that Glocks dont need a break in. Im a first time Glock owner, and I have heard that Glocks are so good they dont need a break in period. Obviously we all need to get used to them and anything that is brand new needs to be broken in some. What are some do/don'ts for breaking in Glock. What ammo do you run? do you even break yours in?

glocks are good to go right out of the box. just bang away.
1. Buy Glock.
2. Read Owner's Manual
3. Load magazines
4. Go to range'
5. Shoot the crap out of it.
There.....it's broken in.
Seriously, a "break-in period" on a Glock is mainly to get YOU used to the trigger, etc. You may or may not notice a slightly gritty feel in the trigger which should go away after a few hundred rounds (or you can polish the parts yourself if it really bothers you). Initial firing will also let you know if you have feeding or mag problems. It happens, but most will chug happily away from the get-go.
I take my NIB Glock to the range and run 50 rounds thru it and then put it in my CCW lineup. In my opinion Glocks dont have a break in period. Some will disagree. I also dont clean it until about 200 rounds have been run thru it.

It's a good idea to break it down clean all of that oil off of the gun. That stuff even gets into the firing pin channel, and you don't want that. Don't remove the anti-seize. That's that goldish colored stuff. Grease the rails just a tad, and go shoot.
1. Shoot a lot
2. Repeat # 1.
3. Repeat # 2.
4. Go buy some more ammo, repeat # 1. and enjoy that thing...
Glock softly and leave your big stick at home...

Even if you don't want to clean it before shooting it the first time. I would at least take it apart and give it a visual and make sure the barrel is clear and all parts are in the right spots. Shipping sometimes can be brutal and ya never know what might happen before you get it. any ammo will do and break in is generally 250 rounds. What this does is give all the parts time to mate and smooth out with each other

All Glocks shoot low and left for the first time buyer. Oh wait, that is break in for the user to get used to the trigger - NOT break in for the gun![]()
