Im on duty so I have to make this quick, today I got a call to a local outdoor supply business that sells firearms, kinda like REI but with guns, for an unknown argument. When I got there I was contacted by the manager who had stopped a young man for open carry. it did state on the front door that only CC and LE can carry and the young man stated that he simply did not see it and offered to leave the store by escort but wanted to file a complaint. Seems reasonable to me right? wrong. As he was escorted out the man was hassled by the manager about his "carelessness" and how "dangerous" it is to open carry, slamming him with false statistics. I know this happened because both the RP's and the subject's stories matched up. So at this point I'm frustrated with the manager for not only making false statements but also harassing this kid. when he said "people get scared, so we don't allow open carry" I said "so you cater to the offended instead of catering to safety?"... I should have kept my mouth shut because this dork went off the rails after his short speechless moment of gathering mindless bullshit. This guy continued to spout nonsense while the young man who was armed was filling out a complaint with the business. The manager continued to banter me saying "YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIS WEAPON, YOU HAVE TO CHECK IT!" so instead i explained to the man that my priority is to insure that the young man's weapon is secured (i really was just watching his gun side for him while he wrote a complaint.) needless to say, I wont support stores that do this and the young man told me and the store owner that he will not return. GOOD! no charges were filed and nothing was on record so i never really needed to be there in the first place.

After talking to the kid, it turns out that since his apartment is also privately owned, they can make what ever policies they want, one of which being that he cant even posses a weapon on the property!?!?! ready for this?! he can't even have spray paint!! he didnt tell me where he lived but he did say because he will not lay his weapons down that if he gets caught he runs the risk of being evicted!! what a shame that money is paramount to preservation of life!!
needless to say everyone parted their ways and this just goes to show you... people suck.

I know that wasn't short but i typed it fast and its time to get back to the streets!

If the sign on the front door was legal, then I have to assume the manager has the right to ask the offender to leave. Why would the offender refuse to leave without a police escort?
I dont shop at stores that dont allow CC but I do follow the law and obey the signs.

Yes they do - there was an article here about parents, who are suing a restaurant because when they were checking out, the kid went out side to look at a "shiny orange motorcycle" and in short part of her finger was cut off from the kid sticking in up into the bike. The kid was just 2...the first thing that comes to mind is that parents let their kids run loose, and they they blame a restaurant owner for not baby sitting their kids. To make matters worse, it's not a big restaurant and not a chain with deep pockets. The owner, 2 months after this, apparently committed suicide...

It's become a fearful, selfish, self-centered world where people don't want to be accountable or responsible. My husband, a 19 yr LEO, fights this everyday with death row inmates and juvies (kids <18 who commit murder or other heinous atrocities). They either have heads too hard to get anything through, or they expect you to baby sit them every waking minute. I'm not an LEO, but I know that most everything I do from a lay person, I have to insist on getting for what I pay. Like this week, I went to an ophthalmologist, which used to be the "premium" eye care one could get and you didn't have to ask for that kind of treatment. My eyes aren't great so I have to spend money on them to keep them optimal. I wasn't familiar with his eye chart and when I got home, I realized he had not given me a prescription for 20/20! I realized he also didn't tell me I hadn't got 20/20...and he should have. Now I'm balking at buying $700 in glasses that were the same as the ones I already had...an expense no one would shell out for an "extra pair" of glasses. They agreed to see me again and "try" to get me to 20/20 but I won't know for a week when I have to wait on the glasses to come in and get a doctor's explanation why they didn't render standard services. Unless they come up with something out of a hat, in short I won't go back to him after this is fixed...my point is another example that no one wants to work anymore, and they want everyone else (aka LEs) to "make" people do whatever they have conceived in their heads. Of course I didn't call the police on my issue - I just got very firm and stated my problem and I expect them to fix it - whether it's correct my vision or give me a $700 refund. But then there are schools that call an LE to come take care of a problem they aren't able to handle, but then parents and administrators get in a snit when they kids are put in handcuffs. We hear this one a lot here.

Texas has a good thing with the 30'06 sign that requires standardized posting and verbiage. I know a lot of states that don't specify where or how, and don't require certain language. I don't know in this case of course, but signs get out of hand quickly (since most stores like to post a bazillion signs when you enter, rending them all pretty useless). That's why I like our 51% sign - it's so noticeable.

It was 100% legal for them request to leave. and he did so. the man carrying requested the manager to escort him out so that the manager would see he is complying and so the manager could point out the sign, which I even missed seeing on the way in it was so small.
I guess I may have not addressed it properly in my original post, but TECHNICALLY could I have charged the kid with a misdemeanor? yeah i could have. but what is the point when the guy complied with all orders and even went the extra mile to cover his as and document the incident.
And still this store owner was in this guys face about gun control and "high capacity magazines that are double stack and over 10 rounds" for "military weapons much like the one on your hip" he was carrying a g23.
just saying the war on guns and legal carry is very real!

Look on the bright side: the store manager lost 2 potential recurring customers by being rude. How many more can he afford to lose? I hope you spread the word to all your buddies.

Good on you BOHICA_11 from an ex-LEO. I hope the manager doesn't get froggy and beef you to your Sup. If your sup is a stand-up guy it won't matter but you've got other things to do besides listening to some idiot's rantings.

Here in Kentucky, "No Guns" signs don't mean anything except in schools, hospitals, courthouses and a few other places that are named by statute. Now, due to property rights laws, if a private business or property owner (where you are not a paying tenant) asks you to leave for any reason then you have to do so or else be arrested for trespass. But otherwise, as long as you are not behaving in a threatening manner or doing really stupid stuff, no one can legally bother you just because they are offended by your sidearm. Kentucky is a very strong 2nd Amendment state. They even protect you from civil suits if you have to resort to legally permissible defensive use of deadly force for instance. It's one of the reasons I live here in retirement.

Signs on the front of stores, movie theaters, parks , etc are simply store policy not law. You can be asked to leave and even trespassed , but as long as you are following the LAW the way you are carrying there are no legal ramifications.

Legally worded signs in Texas mean just that, Legal. If the wording and size are correct stating no guns allowed you can be prosecuted.
