Hey folks, I just joined and have a question about my 43 first gen. Today I took apart the slide to clean and found brass filings behind the retractor and around the striker pin cavity. Is that common or do I need to take it to a gunsmith? Thanks and God bless!

This may be shavings from the brass case of the ammo.

The extractor may be stripping a bit off when doing its job, it will probably stop when the the weapon has a suitable break in period.

Is it possible to inspect the spend cases ?

I agree with Glocken, it's likely scrapes from either the extractor or happening when the round gets stripped from the magazine. I don't think it is something to be concerned about.
