So, not sure if this thread is already anywhere else (probably is, but I couldnt find it) but I just started my bug out bag, here is what I have so far, and some of it I dont have yet, but am getting it next week:

NRA Bugout Bag http://www.nrastore.com/nrastore/Pro...=SA+22201&ct=e (LOVE it and HIGHLY recommend btw)
Glock 17, 350 rounds of fmj (too much? prolly not right?) and 100 rounds, loaded into mags already, of Winchester Ranger 165gr
Water filtration straw (up to 20 gallons)
Magnesium stick with flint on it
200 waterproof matches
7" "survival" knife
100 ft black paracord
Gerber 22-41420 Gator Combo Axe II Amazon.com: Gerber Gator Axe II Saw Combo: Home Improvement
Coleman Aluminum Mess Kit
Various med supplies
Self/ Solar Powered LED Flashlight, am/fm radio, phone charger
Knife sharperner (for serrations and straight blades)
Compact fishing kit
Mylar blankets
2 pack of military can openers
A little food and water

So, thats it for now, suggestions on CRITICAL things I'm missing?

Thanks guys!!

I hope you made Eagle Scout! That list looks pretty good! Well, thinking a nice AR with about 700 rounds. I know a little big for a bug out bag, but I would find a way! :)

Since you have a big bag, and you seem to have stocked it really well I can only think of a few other things.

Don't know if the bag supports it, some do some don't', I would add a water bladder with a bio filter so you would always have a clean portable water source.
solar charger for personal electronics like batteries, flashlights, phones ect,
backup Magnesium stick with flint on it
a Crovel
if you don't want to tote an AR maybe a camp .22 where the barrel stores in the stock.
length of heavy(strength) nylon rope.
Trauma kit
water proof paper and pen
bottle of isopropyl alcohol and a pop can stove
passport, in case you need to head to Canada :)
