Hi all. I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere on the forum, but I looked at every thread with the word "magazine" in the topic and couldn't find the answer to my question...

I own a G17 gen 4 in NJ and it came with 10 round mags. Since the legal max in NJ is 15 rounds, that's what I'd like to run with; Can I just take any old gen3/gen4 15 round mag of the appropriate caliber and use it in my G17, or are the mags somehow model-specific?

Hey, thanks for the quick answer. I was also wondering about the mag overhang. I've seen people talk about buying accessories to fill in the gap between the end of the grip and mag in that situation; What's the motivation behind this? Is it for looks, comfort, or some kind of functional advantage?

I have a G19 Gen3 9mm and a G17 Gen4 9mm... the G17 mags fit the G19, but it hangs out the mag well about an inch. Imagine the exact same thing as the 33 round hicap mag, just shorter. As long as you're not trying to fit a smaller frame magazine into a larger mag (the G19 mag won't work in the G17).

There are no 15 round mags for the G17. The standard capacity mags for the G17 hold 17 rounds. That's why your gun in jersey came with 10 rounders. I don't believe you can even purchase the standard capacity magazines for a G17 in NJ.

The 15 round 9mm mags are too short for use in your gun. Of any Generation.

So the short answer for what you want to do is no you can't.

The gen 4 guns are all backwards compatible with other generation mags. You also can use gen 4 mags in older gen Glocks. The only issue you can come into is if you have switched the mag release to a left handed configuration. If you have, only gen 4 mags can be used due to the older mags not having the proper cut outs for ambidextrous use. With a Glock 17 you would have to use 17+ round mags. Or the 10 rounders if you're stuck to a 10 round limit.

Pretty sure you must use a 9mm magazine as the .40 mag will not accept the 9mm bullets.

Cone Ammunition Bullet Gun accessory Cylinder

The .40 has a bullet diameter of 10.2mm (. 400 in), a neck diameter of 10.7mm, a base diameter of 10.8mm, a rim diameter of 10.8mm and a rim thickness of 1.4mm.

The 9mm has a bullet diameter of 9.01mm (0.355 in), a neck diameter of 9.65mm, a base diameter of 9.93 mm, a rim diameter of 9.96mm and a rim thickness of 0.90 mm.
