Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and new to guns. Iam going yo join a range and plan on getting into competition shooting. So as a first time shooter what gun would be best for me? Pls help I would like the 22 but would it be to powerful and 2 expensive to shoot for a newbe? I'm also looking at a gen 4 17 but is their problems with that gun, rumours about the dual coil and jamming

I'd try a G34 or G17 for competition. They are very popular for that purpose. I'd go with a gen 3, but they've got the gen 4 issues pretty much worked out with the new recoil spring.

I wasn't a fan of .40 for years then got a gen2 G22 and liked it, sold it after I got gen4 G22. Love that gun! I find the recoil to be pretty tame for the caliber. Some 9mm guns have more felt recoil, a couple newbs I brought to the range agreed. Low bore axis and new recoil spring make shooting the G22 very easy. It is still more money than 9mm (which is my 'default' caliber) but gen4 G22 is THE 40 to have :)

I went thought the same process as you wondering about reliability of the Gen4 after reading some threads on forums for a few months but it seems like the problems are getting resolved and it`s easy fixes from Glock. I purchased the 17 Gen4 and it will be here this week. There is a advantage to buying a 22, you can purchase a extra barrel and mags and shoot 9mm with it, if you wish. I just wasn`t interested in doing that.
