They're not plastic. They're metal, and the tritium vials are (or, at least, they used to be) made by Meprolight in Israel. Me? I definitely do NOT like a strong 'night sight' and, especially not an overly bright front sight like those found on, say, Meprolight, Trijicon, or AmeriGlo sight sets.
This is the reason 'Why' expensive Heinie 'Straight Eights' are so popular with me. Richard Heinie is one of the few pistol sight manufacturers who realizes the disadvantages to using a overly large and/or overly bright front sight.
I once 'lost' an incoming target directly behind the brilliant green glow of my Meprolight front sight. An experience which I will never forget! For general shooting at the range and in dimly lit matches or interior rooms I like TruGlo TFX Pro sights about the best of all. Otherwise, and for general all-around use, it's Heinie!
I have Heinie’s Straight Eights on a few 1911’s. They are terrific.
The “8” configuration is my favorite as well as it seems faster for me to align than “three dot” or other marking configurations. Three dot is what’s on my EDC pistol, though.
