I have a new glock 24, 40, not even a box of shells thru it, first clip, jam jam jam etc. will not feed or close slide all the way. 20 rounds later I put it away writing it off to being new and tight. Got it out today loaded up some 165s, hit the slide release, remember thinking, that fed well, had been chronoing my 35 so I thought I would check the velocity difference. I pulled the trigger and kaboom, I isntantly thought I had lost both hands. After regaining my wits and checking for missing body parts, I noticed the mag was out of the gun, both hands stung but no blood. The empty was still in the chamber so I went home and disassembled it. I checked the slide, barrel and frame with a magnifying glass and could not see any damage. The brass was not bulged and show no pressure signs. The chrono read 897 down from 1027 in my 35. Looked at the mag and it was split. My first guess is that it fired out of battery, any one else have any experience like this.

Sucks that happened...couple of questions;

Were they reloads? FMJ/plated or lead?

If I had to guess (assuming you were shooting reloads) the loads were too light and wouldn't cycle the slide causing jams.
Kaboom could've been caused by either;

-Leaded barrel, caused too much pressure.
or
-There was no powder in the round before the KB, primer lodged the bullet in the barrel and when you shot it again it blew up the gun.

Is there a bulge in a barrel?

I think... and im sure someone will corect me here if im wrong. There is a gap at the top of the feed ramp exposing some of the casing of the round. I have heard of this happening to people in the past. Mostly with hand loads that were to hot. I dont own a 40 never have never will. But thats a different story.
sorry that happened to your glock, but they are easy enough to replace, hands and fingers though not so much. Count your blessings
Cheers
