I am a noob to Glock pistols. I bought my very first Glock (Gen 4 G17) a few weeks ago. I had seen and shot older Glocks, Gen 1-3, and the finish on mine looked different to what I had seen before. I didn't really think much of it...........until this past Saturday night.
My gf is going out of town this Tuesday and won't be here for Christmas. My son came over Saturday night and we all exchanged Christmas gifts that night. My son bought my gf a GREEN + LIFE cookware set. I swear to you, the pots & pans in that set have the SAME IDENTICAL finish (by vision comparison) on them as does my new Glock pistol! They call it THERMOLON ceramic coating. If you don't believe me, go to a store that sells this cookware and check it out for yourself.

Okay, I called Glock to find out my pistol born on date (8/20/16). I also asked the Glock tech. about the Gen 4 finish. He stated that it was a Nitride finish. He also stated that Glock used to use a Tenifer application, but, because it contains cyanide they stopped using it. Okay?

over the years glock has changed the final coating from black to a very dark grayish color and now back to the dull nitrite finish. a lot ot it has to to do with the EPA and what they will allow in the uSA

Here's a little explanation of the process used to treat some gun slides. Once Glock slides are treated, an ever-changing array of finishes are applied (none of which have ever been disclosed to the public).

Melonite and Tenifer are not finishes, they are brand names for processes for treating metal upon which finishes will later be applied. (Regardless of what Ed, from customer service, would tell some cook with a Glock, who's girlfriend hits the bricks at Christmas Time. [emoji319])

I'm the Glock novice here, GFB. Aren't members with your status supposed to be teaching me about Glocks? BTW, tell my kids Merry Christmas!
